Eva Gelencser

Dr. Éva Gelencsér, C.Sc. in chemistry, dr. habil. Recently she is the Head of Biology Unit and Food Safety Department of Central Food Research Institute (, titular professor of Budapest Corvinus University (, and member of the Department of Food Science of the Szent István University ( affiliated to the CFRI.

She has a wide research experience in food science and plant protein chemistry. Current focus: detection, gut resistance of peptides and proteins and impact on the performance and immune activity of bioactive proteins such as lectins and protease inhibitors, and newly expressed proteins in transgenic crops and other potential allergenic proteins. She is involved in several EU programs as DREAM, GMSAFOOD and IFOGEST projects and coordinating national RTD programs (OTKA, NRTP) related to common food allergens and newly expressed proteins in GM plants with special regards on the allergenic risk.

She is active for Hungarian Academy of Science (Member of Complex Committee of Food Science and their Working Committees on Food Chemistry and Nutrition, Food Safety Sub-Committee of HAS Presidency) and other national scientific committees (Secretary for Codex MNB on Biotechnologically derived foods; Expert for National Advisory Board of HFSO on GMOs; Member of Hungarian Scientific Society for Food Industry and Hungarian Society for Nutrition). She is national expert for the Toxicology Subgroup of the SAFE Consortium and external expert for EFSA.
