Sandy Lawrie

Head of Novel Foods Unit. Keynote speaker
Dr Sandy Lawrie joined the UK Civil Service as a scientist with a research background in clinical pharmacology.  Since then he has worked in food safety and regulatory affairs and has covered a range of issues including flavourings, enzymes, food additives, genetic modification and novel foods.  He is currently head of the FSA’s Novel Foods Unit, which deals with the regulation of novel and GM foods and also coordinates issues related to nanotechnology across the FSA.  He is also the Secretary to the Advisory Committee on Novel Foods and Processes, a committee of independent experts that advises the Agency on all aspects of novel and GM foods.
