Armin Spök

 Armin Spök studied Biology with a focus on molecular genetics at the University of Graz and Science and Technology Policy at the University of Sussex. He is a Senior Researcher and Head of the Research Unit 'Modern Biotechnology' at IFZ – Inter-University Research Centre for Technology, Work and Culture.His recent research and scientific advisory work focuses on scientific, regulatory and policy aspects of environmental and health risk assessment of biotechnology, including genetically modified plants and microorganisms as well as food, feed, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, cosmetics and other products derived from them. From 1997 to 2003 he also coordinated the Biotechnology Information Centre INFOgen that has been active in initiating further education in the context of the biotechnology debate.
 
In recent years Armin Spök has also served as expert advisor to the European Food Safety Authority, the European Commission, the FAO, to several national Authorities as well as at the OECD and UN level. He is lecturing at Klagenfurt University, University of Graz, and at the University of Applied Technology in Kapfenberg on societal approaches and procedures for assessing and managing these risks.
